Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen (30th Anniversary Edition) on Nintendo Switch with Expanded Content and Online Features

Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen are coming to the Nintendo Switch on February 28, 2026, as digital downloads via the My Nintendo Store and Nintendo eShop. These games will be compatible with both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, honoring the franchise’s 30th anniversary. Priced at $19.99 each, these updated versions retain all the classic Game Boy Advance mechanics, including abilities, natures, weather effects, held items, and character gender selection. Players can once again catch the original 151 Pokémon. Moreover, players worldwide can now obtain the Mystic Ticket and Aurora Ticket items by defeating the Elite Four and entering the Hall of Fame. These tickets, previously available only at in-person events, unlock special encounters with Lugia, Ho-Oh, and Deoxys—offering a chance to find Shiny versions of each. Unlike the original Game Boy Advance releases, a Game Link Cable is no longer needed for local co-op play on the Nintendo Switch 2. However, the French and Spanish versions of the game utilize European variants of certain Pokémon, which cannot be changed in-game. Also, local play with friends requires additional games and systems, sold separately.
