On Monday, Ubisoft announced the appointment of three individuals to lead the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise at Ubisoft Vantage Studios, the first of five new development houses for the company. This studio was created with financial support from Tencent. The announcement names Martin Schelling as the Head of the Assassin’s Creed brand, responsible for setting the franchise’s overall strategy and long-term vision. Schelling previously served as Ubisoft’s Chief Production Officer. Jean Guesdon will guide the creative direction of the Assassin’s Creed series as Head of Content. Guesdon has worked on over a dozen titles in the series, beginning with the first Assassin’s Creed game in 2007. Finally, Francois de Billy will serve as Head of Production Excellence, after previously serving as Production Director on both Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Assassin’s Creed Origins. Schelling, who also produced Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, recently spoke with Joshua Brown of PCGamesN. He shared insights into creating historical encounters in Black Flag, where players could meet and interact with over 50 historical figures, and discussed why Edward Kenway is such a compelling character. De Billy will be in charge of establishing the procedures and practices that developers must follow for upcoming games.

While Ubisoft has not yet disclosed details regarding the future direction of the franchise, the company is reportedly working on a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, titled Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: Resynced.
