Sharma’s background is in building and expanding large-scale platforms, not entertainment software development. Before leading Microsoft’s AI division in 2024, she held significant leadership positions at tech giants: Meta (Facebook/Instagram): Vice President of Product and Engineering, managing products used by billions. Instacart: Chief Operating Officer, managing the logistics and expansion of the delivery platform.

He sees Xbox as a multiplatform ecosystem (Game Pass, Cloud, PC, Mobile) reaching 500 million monthly active users, not just a console. Her mission is to develop new business strategies and ensure the Xbox platform functions seamlessly across devices, and Bond’s departure reflects this shift toward a more corporate and technological vision. Recognizing that her background might be perceived as a departure from Xbox’s gaming roots, Sharma quickly promoted Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, to Chief Content Officer. This creates a dual leadership structure: Sharma oversees platform strategy, expansion, and new business strategies, while Booty retains creative responsibility for the studios. “He understands the art and challenges of building great games,” Sharma stated in her introductory statement. She also pledged no boring, soulless AI content.
