The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon FireRed Version and LeafGreen Version will be released on the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo Switch on February 27, 2026, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise. These versions of the classic Game Boy Advance games will introduce a new audience to the Kanto region. Reportedly, the games will be priced at $19.99 each and will not be part of the Nintendo Switch Online service because The Pokémon Company wanted to avoid potential conflicts between NSO features and the game. Adding a unique twist, language-specific editions will be available. In PAL regions, five separate releases will be offered: English-only, French-only, Italian-only, German-only, and Spanish-only versions. North America will have a slightly simpler selection, with English-only, French-only, and Spanish-only versions. As with the original releases, the language setting cannot be altered in-game. The re-released Pokémon FireRed Version and LeafGreen Version will feature compatibility with Pokémon HOME and the Sevii Islands, which include additional Pokémon. Players can also access the updated Pokémon Wireless Club for local trading and battles.

Nintendo Switch Releases Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen on February 27, 2026 – Pre-Purchase Language Versions Now Available

Downloads will be available from the Nintendo eShop starting at 6:00 a.m. PST on February 27, 2026. While online play is not supported, players can pre-purchase their chosen language version now via the Nintendo digital store, reviving the experience of the original releases. The re-releases will also sync with Pokémon Home.
