After Crimson Desert went gold last month, Pearl Abyss clarified that the game will not feature microtransactions, setting it apart from many recent AAA titles. During the Dropped Frames show, Will Powers, Marketing Director at Pearl Abyss America, stated that the game would have “no cosmetic shop, no premium currency, no trap to empty our wallets,” emphasizing a premium experience with a one-time purchase price of $70. Pearl Abyss also revealed that Crimson Desert will offer preorder bonuses, along with exclusive cosmetic items in the deluxe and collector’s editions. To keep the game fresh, the studio plans to release expansion packs. The playable area in Crimson Desert is at least twice the size of Skyrim. The developers have divided the game world into five distinct regions: Hernand, Pailune, Demeniss, Delesyia, and the Crimson Desert itself. The development team aims to make this expansive world highly interactive, with hidden treasures and intricate mechanisms scattered throughout.

Crimson Desert is slated for release on March 19, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This launch date is a shift from the originally planned March 19, 2023, release. On February 12, Sony plans a 60-minute State of Play broadcast dedicated to the game. The vastness of Crimson Desert had prompted speculation about potential predatory monetization. However, Pearl Abyss maintains that the game is designed as a complete adventure, encouraging players to focus on exploration, equipment upgrades, and character progression without pressure to spend additional money. Powers also addressed the misconception that Crimson Desert is a Soulslike game, a categorization based on its challenging fights and dramatic staging. He clarified that Crimson Desert is designed to be more flexible and open, giving players the option to retreat, explore other areas, and return better equipped, or to focus on side quests. Powers stated that the challenge lies not in severe penalties, but in mastering combos, strategy, and adaptability. Crimson Desert presents itself as an ambitious adventure prioritizing player experience over in-game transactions.
