Jason Momoa and Justin Lin Confirmed for Helldivers Film

Following its success in video games, Helldivers is rapidly heading to the big screen. According to Deadline, Sony has tapped Justin Lin, known for directing Star Trek Beyond and most of the Fast & Furious films, to direct the Helldivers movie. This adaptation of the game series by Arrowhead Game Studios, which began in 2015, will star Jason Momoa in the lead role. Momoa’s extensive experience in genre entertainment, from Game of Thrones to Aquaman, makes him a natural fit for this science fiction action film. Helldivers 2, the game’s sequel, has already sold over 12 million units. Sony Pictures plans to release the film in theaters on November 10, 2027. PlayStation Productions will produce the film, their fourth collaboration with Sony Pictures, after the Uncharted film, the Twisted Metal TV series, and The Last of Us. The film will follow an elite squad of soldiers known as Helldivers as they combat alien creatures threatening Super Earth, a fictional planet. Gary Dauberman wrote the screenplay.

Momoa, known for his roles in projects like Zack Snyder’s DC universe, where he played Aquaman, is also confirmed to play Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl film. Additionally, he will portray Blanka in the new Street Fighter adaptation, and will appear in the upcoming Minecraft movie and its sequel. The storyline is expected to mirror the game’s premise: an army invades an alien resource-rich planet to spread freedom and democracy.
