Digital-Only GTA VI Launch Planned, Physical Release Delayed for Piracy Prevention

According to a retail source, Take-Two Interactive plans a digital-only launch for Grand Theft Auto VI on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a physical release planned for later. The delayed physical release is reportedly an effort to combat leaks. However, the timing of the physical release remains uncertain. Reports suggest it could launch anywhere from three to four weeks after the digital release to as late as early 2027. More definitive information is anticipated by mid-February. Rockstar’s history of avoiding PC releases at launch and strictly controlling information beyond official trailers likely stems from concerns about piracy and pre-release leaks, issues that have plagued other major titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Half-Life 2, and The Last of Us Part II.
