Permanent Shutdown of New World: Aeternum Scheduled for January 2027

Amazon has announced the end of New World: Aeternum, which has been removed from all digital storefronts. New players are no longer able to purchase the game; however, current owners can continue playing until the servers are permanently shut down across all platforms on January 31, 2027. The Nighthaven season, the game’s final major update, will remain active until the servers close. In-game microtransactions, including Marks of Fortune, will be available until July 20, 2026, after which no further purchases will be possible. Players who have already purchased the game can continue to install and play it until the final shutdown date. In a statement, Amazon expressed gratitude to the community for its support and for the opportunity to collaborate with players in building the world of Aeternum, anticipating a final year of shared adventures. Upon release, New World: Aeternum saw a peak of 913,634 concurrent players. Amazon Games’ decision to remove the game from online stores signals the end of development, with no further server merges or new content planned.

Amazon has extended the game’s life by approximately one year before the final server shutdown. Players seeking refunds for New World: Aeternum should contact customer support on their platform of purchase. Amazon will not issue refunds for purchased Marks of Fortune. Looking ahead, Amazon Studios is developing a new TV series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, exploring events in Middle-earth before The Fellowship of the Ring. The studio has not yet announced a release date. New World: Aeternum now joins other MMO games that are being retired.
