Tron: Ares – Intense Action Spectacle Arrives on Disney+ and Home Video in Early 2026

Disney’s Tron: Ares, directed by Joachim Rønning, is slated for release in theaters on October 9, 2025, followed by its debut on Disney+ on January 7, 2026, approximately three months later. On the same day it hits the streaming service, Tron: Ares will also be released on Blu-ray, DVD, and as a Limited Edition Collectible SteelBook. Digital distribution began in early December, 53 days after the theatrical release. Disney is promoting the film as an intense action spectacle, featuring a confrontation between AI and humanity, cutting-edge visual effects, and an original score by Nine Inch Nails. The film features a character named Ares in an armored suit, appearing in a scene lit with a red glow, reminiscent of Disney’s futuristic theme park rides. The cast of Tron: Ares includes Jared Leto, Jodie Turner-Smith, Greta Lee, Gillian Anderson, Evan Peters, Cameron Monaghan, Sarah Desjardins, and Jeff Bridges. Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne wrote the screenplay.

Tron: Ares – Mixed Reviews and Box Office Challenges

Despite the star power and special effects, Tron: Ares faced challenges at the box office and received mixed reviews. The film’s production cost was between $180 and $220 million. Domestically, it grossed $73.2 million, with a worldwide total of $142 million. Its opening weekend brought in $35 million, less than the $44 million earned by Tron: Legacy 15 years prior. Critics gave the film mixed reviews, resulting in a Rotten Tomatoes score of 54%. However, audiences on Rotten Tomatoes gave the film an impressive 84% score.
