Delay in 007 First Light Release: Io Interactive Shifts Date to May 27, 2026 for Polished Gameplay

Io Interactive has delayed the release of their upcoming James Bond game, 007 First Light, by two months. The game, initially scheduled for March 27, 2026, was delayed in late December 2025 and will now be released on May 27, 2026. The studio announced the delay on Twitter, stating that the decision was made to deliver a more polished final version. This announcement is surprising, given that Io Interactive had previously validated the original release date and presented a new trailer at The Game Awards 2025. In June, Io Interactive released the first trailer for 007 First Light, followed by a detailed gameplay preview in September. Lenny Kravitz and Gemma Chan are officially part of the game’s cast.

In a statement, Io Interactive explained, “007 First Light is our most ambitious project to date, and our team is fully focused on development to deliver an unforgettable James Bond experience, featuring breathtaking action, worldwide travels, espionage, gadgets, car chases, and more. As an independent studio and publisher, this decision allows us to achieve the quality players deserve right from launch. The entire game can be played, start to finish. IO Interactive will share new updates about 007 First Light by early 2026. The project is progressing well and is currently playable from start to finish, so these two additional months will enable us to refine and enhance the experience. We are confident this ensures 007 First Light’s long-term success, and we sincerely appreciate your patience. We look forward to sharing more information beginning in 2026.”

The studio is confident in this decision, emphasizing their commitment to quality and player experience. They also highlighted the strategic advantage of releasing the game at the start of summer 2026, allowing it to stand out in a less crowded release schedule following the launch of GTA 6, while still capturing the attention of players seeking summer blockbusters. These two extra months will allow the team to fine-tune technical aspects, polish gameplay, and solidify the overall experience.
