PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Sales Soar in Japan, Tripling Weekly Units Sold

On November 21st, PlayStation Japan released a Japanese-exclusive version of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, priced at approximately 300 euros and supporting only the Japanese language. This release aimed to address declining console sales and the weakening PlayStation brand within Sony. Famitsu data shows the new console has significantly boosted sales. In the three weeks following its release, the PS5 sold nearly as many units as in the eight weeks prior. Specifically, 135,000 PS5 units were sold in the past three weeks, with the 300-euro Digital Edition becoming the top-selling model, accounting for over 53,000 units since November 21st. Despite Black Friday discounts on other models, the Digital Edition remained the most popular in Japanese stores. The 135,000 units sold in the past three weeks nearly matched the 156,000 sold between September 1st and November 2nd, demonstrating that the console is now selling at double its previous pace.
