Marvel Cosmic Invasion: A 90s-Style Beat ‘Em Up Exploration

In contrast to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredders Revenge, Cosmic Invasion embraces a distinct 90s aesthetic. As Annihilus unleashes insectoid swarms and mind-control bugs across the Marvel universe, players will confront iconic Marvel villains in settings like Asgard, New York City, and Wakanda. The game features rapid-fire dialogue typical of Marvel properties, and players must master the controls to navigate its challenges. During gameplay, characters can utilize powerful laser cannons. A comic book enthusiast with limited experience in beat ’em up games who played Cosmic Invasion observed its resemblance to 1990s platformers, enhanced by an X-Men and broader Marvel leveling system that expands upon the Ninja Turtles formula. Flying characters such as Iron Man and Storm are best suited for missions against colossal enemies like Sentinels due to their ability to evade heavy ground attacks. Wolverine and Spider-Man excel with their speed, while Captain America and others are formidable in solo combat.

Marvel’s Cosmic Invasion: A 90s-Inspired Beat ‘Em Up from Tribute Games

Marvel’s Cosmic Invasion will launch on December 1st, 2025, for Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, the new Nintendo Switch, and PC, featuring 15 playable characters, some unlockable. Up to four players can team up for local co-op. The game’s detailed pixel art is complemented by a high-quality soundtrack and strong voice acting, particularly for Spider-Man. During one session, a glitch caused Wolverine to become stuck after knocking flying enemies into a pit, halting the stage’s progression. There is currently no information about a roguelike mode or character customization options similar to Street Fighter Alpha 3’s “isms.” While Cosmic Invasion may initially appear to be a typical retro beat ’em up, its refined design creates an addictive experience. Dotemu, known for the million-selling Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredders Revenge, submitted Tribute Games’ Marvel Cosmic Invasion to PlayersForLife of Games in advance. Given Shredders Revenge’s success, Marvel’s Cosmic Invasion has the potential to achieve similar commercial heights.
