Arknights: Endfield – A Content-Dense Sandbox RPG with Focused Exploration

Chinese developer Hypergryph is preparing to launch Arknights: Endfield, a free-to-play action RPG for PS5, PC, and mobile. The game will stand out with construction mechanics and a design distinct from typical open-world titles. In an exclusive interview at a recent media conference, producer Rua stated that while Endfield features a large explorable map, it is not designed as an open-world game. As reported by Automaton, Rua explained that players may regard it as an “open game” simply because the term is vague and often associated with expansive maps. Despite Rua’s comments, player feedback from the initial beta highlighted disorientation within Endfield’s large map. In response, the developers adjusted the design for the second beta test, which begins November 27th at 10 PM Eastern Time, adopting a more focused sandbox approach with clearer objective routes and enemy placements to guide players. The team also refined aspects such as gacha elements, base building, combat, and operator types. The development team emphasizes that Arknights: Endfield is designed to be content-dense, avoiding the empty spaces often found in open-world games. Instead, they describe it as sandbox-like, with seamlessly connected areas.
