Mouse Controls Abandoned for Resident Evil Requiem on Switch 2; Gyroscope and First-Person/Third-Person Perspectives Prevail

For the Switch 2 version of Resident Evil: Requiem, Capcom experimented with mouse controls using new Joy-Cons, but ultimately abandoned the idea. Producer Masato Kumazawa explained that testing revealed the mouse controls felt awkward and imprecise, proving to be a poor fit for the game’s style. The development team then opted for gyroscope controls, aiming for a simpler and more natural control scheme that complements the game’s tense rhythm. In pursuit of graphical parity with other platforms, the Switch 2 version is also expected to feature technical enhancements such as ray tracing, according to Digital Foundry. This would allow Capcom to keep the game looking as good as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions, albeit with potential performance adjustments for handheld mode. Resident Evil: Requiem will also offer both first-person and third-person perspectives, giving players the option of a Resident Evil: Village-like experience or a more classic gameplay style reminiscent of recent remakes.

Resident Evil Requiem on Multiple Platforms: Switch 2 Release Alongside Additional Content

The game is scheduled for release on February 27, 2026, simultaneously for Switch 2, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. The Switch 2 will also see the release of Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil: Village that day, and alongside these games, players can expect extras such as a Pro Controller theme and a Grace Ashcroft amiibo.
