However, reports soon confirmed the cancellation of Netflix’s Horizon Zero Dawn series, leaving the future of the Horizon adaptation uncertain. The project has now found new life, albeit in a different format.

Horizon Film: PlayStation and Columbia Pictures Collaborate for 2027 Release, Aloy Central to Cast

Details about the Horizon film emerged from court documents obtained by The Game Post during a lawsuit between Sony and Tencent concerning Light of Motiram, a title described as similar in style to Guerrilla Games’ work. PlayStation is actively developing the Horizon film, which has progressed significantly since the series adaptation was canceled. Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions, confirmed the project, stating, “We’re making a Horizon film with Columbia Pictures, we’ve got a script ready to go, and we’re looking for a director. Aiming to start filming in 2026 for a 2027 release.” He also noted the film is intended to align with other PlayStation Productions projects, such as the Uncharted and Gran Turismo films. Qizilbash further emphasized that Aloy, the protagonist of Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, will be central to the movie. He described her as a “major face of the highly anticipated film,” highlighting her crucial role in the franchise’s trajectory. Although PlayStation has not yet announced an actor for Aloy or a director for the film, fans of Guerrilla Games can anticipate her prominent role.
