Atlus Postpones Persona 3 Reload on Original Switch for Nintendo Switch 2 Optimization

Atlus initially considered releasing Persona 3 Reloaded on the Nintendo Switch but ultimately decided against it. According to producer Kazuhisa Wada, optimizing the game for the original Switch would have impeded development for the Nintendo Switch 2. In a chat with 4G, Wada expressed enthusiasm for the positive reception following the announcement of the game’s Switch 2 version. Wada clarified that Atlus originally intended to bring Persona 3 Reloaded to Nintendo consoles, but balancing development for both the original Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 was challenging. Upon the Nintendo Switch 2’s announcement, the team began porting the game and eagerly sought access to the developer kit. Wada noted that making Persona 3 Reloaded exclusive to the Switch 2 was crucial for an expedient release on the new console; a prior launch on the original Switch would have delayed the Switch 2 version by at least a year. Yoshihiro Komori, director of Persona 3 Reloaded, corroborated this. He stated that internal testing revealed significant difficulties in achieving optimal performance on the original Switch. Meeting their graphics and performance goals would have required a complete interface redesign and an additional year of development, further postponing the Switch 2 version.
