Yakuza Kiwami 3 – Remake & Expansion of Yakuza 3’s Okinawa Tale

Sega announced Yakuza Kiwami 3 – Dark Ties at Tokyo Game Show 2025. This new installment, celebrating the franchise’s 20th anniversary, combines a remake of Yakuza 3 with an all-new narrative. Sega’s strategy for the series involves mixing new episodes with remakes to maintain fan engagement. For Yakuza Kiwami 3, Sega promises updated visuals powered by the Dragon Engine and refined gameplay. Notably, the remake will include all original content, unlike the 2009 Western release of Yakuza 3, which saw sections trimmed. Yakuza Kiwami 3 retells the original story of Kazuma Kiryu and his daughter Haruka Sawamura, who are living in Okinawa and managing the Morning Glory Orphanage. When powerful figures express interest in local properties, Kiryu must defend his principles, confronting elements from his past. The remake features a major overhaul, including new cutscenes, side stories, and improved mechanics, enhancing the realism of Okinawa and Kamurocho. Combat offers two distinct styles: Dragon of Dojima: Kiwami, a power-focused style boasting the most techniques in the series; and Ryukyu, a technical style utilizing eight types of traditional Okinawan weapons with numerous combos.

Yakuza Kiwami 3 – Dark Ties Bonus Content: Mine’s Rise & Ryukyu Biker Gang Adventure

The Dark Ties bonus content centers on Yoshitaka Mine, the iconic villain from Yakuza 3. This new story traces Mine’s transformation from a startup leader to his entanglement in the yakuza world. Players control Mine and utilize a boxing-inspired combat system, which includes Grim Awakening, enabling powerful combos and decisive attacks. Beyond the main story, an additional mode called Legendary Gangster: Bad Boy Dragon allows players to team up with a biker gang and fight alongside the Ryukyu Giga Gonz, a group of female bikers protecting Okinawa’s streets. Finally, Hell’s Arena, an underground fighting club, offers various challenges, including Survival Hell mode, where players face waves of enemies in an underground dungeon. Players who preorder Yakuza Kiwami 3 – Dark Ties, either physically or digitally, will receive the exclusive DLC Ryukyu Giga Gonz: Legendary Ichiban, which adds Ichiban Kazuga to their gang. The Digital Deluxe edition includes additional characters, customization items, music tracks, and specific packs.

Yakuza Kiwami Trilogy & 0 Director’s Cut Expand to Multiple Platforms by Late 2025 and Early 2026

In related news for the series, Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 by November 13, 2025, followed by releases on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC by December 8, 2025, with expanded language options. Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut is currently available on Switch 2 and will also release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on December 8, 2025. Yakuza Kiwami 3 – Dark Ties will be available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PS4 on February 12, 2026. Sega is positioning the Yakuza series as its own Assassin’s Creed-like franchise.
