Forza Horizon 6: Racing Through Japan’s Iconic Landmarks

Last August, Microsoft and Playground Games revealed Forza Horizon 6 at the Tokyo Game Show. Playground Games confirmed the racing game will be set on Japan’s highways, following previous iterations in Colorado, France, Italy, Australia, Britain, and Mexico. Players can anticipate iconic landmarks such as Mount Fuji, cherry blossoms, temples, shrines, and a dynamic seasonal world. Art Director Don Arceta expressed enthusiasm for the new setting, noting that Japan has been highly requested by fans. “Japan’s been high on our fans’ wish lists, so we’re finally taking them there in Forza Horizon 6,” Arceta stated. He elaborated on the cultural appeal, adding, “Japanese culture has it all—cars, music, fashion—making it perfect for our next Horizon Festival. As always, we’re aiming to make the open world as authentic as possible.”

Arceta also shared that the team had long desired to set Forza Horizon in Japan but awaited the necessary technological advancements to do the setting justice. To achieve this, the team utilized elements from the Hot Wheels DLC in Forza Horizon 5 for constructing the game’s expansive highways. “We’re excited to show off Japan’s beauty, from bustling cities like Tokyo—our most detailed environment yet—to peaceful countryside,” he explained. To ensure authenticity, the development team is collaborating with local expert Kyoko Yamashita, who has previously worked with Porsche. Forza Horizon 6 is scheduled for release in 2026, launching first on PC and Xbox Series X|S, with a PlayStation 5 version to follow later.
