Xbox Could Expand Cloud Gaming Access with Affordable Tiers and Global Reach

Microsoft is exploring options to make Xbox Cloud Gaming more widely accessible, potentially extending beyond its current exclusivity to the Game Pass Ultimate tier, priced at $17.99 per month. Jason Ronald, Xbox’s Vice President of Next Generation, indicated in a company podcast that there is interest in broadening the offering. Many Game Pass Ultimate subscribers frequently use cloud gaming, either as their primary method of play or as a convenient backup while traveling. Expanding access could involve introducing a more budget-friendly plan or extending availability to additional regions and devices. While Ronald did not confirm a new tier specifically for cloud gaming, a potential standalone offering could allow users to stream games without subscribing to the full suite of Game Pass benefits, such as game downloads. Notably, Xbox has already enhanced cloud streaming for games outside the Game Pass library, though this feature remains exclusive to Ultimate plan holders. This initiative aligns with Microsoft’s broader goal of expanding the global reach of Xbox Cloud Gaming. Microsoft views a more affordable Game Pass tier as a key solution to achieve this expansion.
