Bloober Team’s latest project, Cronos: The New Dawn, was recently showcased at a hands-on preview in Krakow in July. During the event, the game’s producer and lead writer offered insights into its narrative, which combines elements of time travel, apocalypse, and existential philosophy. The game is set in an alternate universe where a mysterious disease, “The Change,” ended humanity in the 1980s. Players assume the role of a Traveler, an emissary of the enigmatic Collective, tasked with returning to the precise moment of the world’s end to retrieve the essence of selected individuals. These essences are their souls, and the game depicts the retrieval process as painful, causing the individuals to scream. A central hub will serve as a base between each mission. Gameplay footage revealed that each collected essence grants the player a unique advantage, and the player’s choice of individuals to collect from influences the game’s narrative and world state. Between missions, players will spend time in this central hub, managed by Warden, a character who holds a contrasting philosophical perspective to the Traveler and is keen to share his musings. As expected from Bloober Team, the game promises intriguing characters, deep relationships, and intertwined stories.
