Square Enix Celebrates Final Fantasy IX’s 25th Anniversary with Surprising Announcements (Remake Updates Pending)

Final Fantasy IX recently marked its 25th anniversary, an occasion many fans hoped would bring news about the long-rumored remake, a title anticipated for over four years. Square Enix delivered a wave of nostalgia with a new video titled “Final Fantasy 9 25th Anniversary Special Movie.” This minute-long video features memorable moments and beloved characters from the game. The company also unveiled three stunning illustrations by character designer Toshiyuki Itahana. One illustration focuses on the Lifa Tree from various perspectives, another highlights Kuja, the game’s antagonist, and the third showcases the entire cast against a simple white background. Additionally, Square Enix is offering new merchandise for FFIX fans. This includes a 48-page book featuring an unreleased Vivi story, a vinyl record with selected tracks from the original soundtrack and remastered versions, various items available on their official store, and a calendar inspired by the game’s colors. For artists within the fanbase, Square Enix is hosting a fan art project for the 25th anniversary of FFIX, which runs until October 31, 2025. Despite the absence of a remake announcement, Square Enix continues to engage with the FFIX fanbase.

Final Fantasy IX is currently available at a 70% discount on various platforms. On Steam, the game costs just $6.29, with the offer concluding on July 10th. The deal ends on Green Man Gaming on July 11th, and on the Nintendo eShop on July 16th.
