Despite numerous high-profile AAA titles having already launched on the Nintendo Switch 2, Marvel Rivals remains unavailable on the new console. Director Guangyun Chen recently spoke with VideoGamer, clarifying why the game has yet to launch on the platform. He stated that it’s because NetEase has not yet obtained a Switch 2 development kit. Chen mentioned that the studio is actively working to acquire the necessary development kit for Nintendo’s console. Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu corroborated this, confirming that NetEase has been in discussions with Nintendo regarding the Switch 2 development kits and is entirely open to bringing Marvel Rivals to the platform in the future. Chen reiterated that the team is still trying to secure the development hardware for the NS2. Without access to this equipment, developing a Switch 2 version of Marvel Rivals is, technically speaking, impossible.
The team had initially considered porting the game to the original Switch, but that console lacked sufficient power, preventing any substantial development. However, with the Switch 2 being substantially more powerful and comparable to other modern consoles, the prospect of a Switch 2 version is now viable. Nevertheless, it all depends on first acquiring the necessary development hardware. Chen stated that as soon as they obtain the kit, they will assess the situation to determine the next steps. Until then, do not expect any confirmation regarding a Switch 2 version being in development.
