Baldur’s Gate 3, being such a massive hit lately, you’d think it would totally boost the careers of its amazing voice actors. But nope, turns out it hasn’t really worked out that way for them, even though they’ve been super praised for their work. In a recent chat, Samantha Beart (who plays Karlach), Theo Solomon (Wyll), and Dave Jones (Halsin) were asked if BG3’s success changed their lives or jobs. They said it’s awesome getting to travel the world and meet fans – they never even dreamed the game would get so big! But here’s the kicker: even with all that love from fans, their actual careers haven’t budged. The amount of work they can get is pretty much the same as before. Beart figures that casting folks and recording studios often aren’t really in the loop with game makers. They don’t know the game industry as well, which makes an actor’s success in a game seem less important to them. She also says that whole idea of video game actors swimming in work and cash? Totally false. Apparently, even the people they work with on game productions don’t know about awards they’ve won or even recognize their names or resumes. They still have to prove themselves. So, even if an actor nails a role and wins tons of awards for it, they might still find themselves out of work pretty fast. These voice actors say the video game world just works differently from TV or movies. What you’ve done in the past doesn’t really count for future job hunting
Theo Solomon, who you know as Wyll in BG3, is actually a full-time student when he’s not busy with game stuff. He thinks every actor has to constantly look for new gigs, make connections, and sometimes, well, just be out of work. Dave Jones, the voice of Halsin, totally agrees. He adds that for video games, what you’ve done before barely matters for new roles. It’s really all about nailing those blind auditions. Both Solomon and Jones really stress that even a massive hit like BG3 doesn’t promise future jobs. Every actor still has to keep auditioning and proving what they can do for every single role they want.
