Reporter Kao Tokio from Quebrando o Controle reports that young indigenous developer Marina Gatto, from the Iambé village in the Amazon region, won the Best Game award in the SBT Games category at the global final of Game Jam Plus 2024/2025. The game, “Brincadeira de Heroi”, was inspired by Monteiro Lobato’s literary work and is set in references to Sítio do Picapau Amarelo. In the game developed exclusively for Game Jam Plus 24/25, players enter Pedrinho’s dream to defeat the Cuca and become the hero. Marina, who faces challenges as an indigenous person in a country that undervalues her roots among original peoples, was applauded at the event and appeared on stage with her baby in arms. In 2024, Ayeta Studio’s board game Paranã Rēbiwa, about indigenous ancestry, was already highlighted in the Final Continental Brasil of Game Jam Plus. The “Brincadeira de Heroi” game is available in PDF format on the Itch.io platform and can be downloaded and printed for group play, free of charge.
