Microsoft announced a partnership with AMD to produce the chips for the next-generation Xbox console and other hardware from the brand.
On Tuesday, Xbox President Sarah Bond announced an agreement that promises a future featuring “deeper visual quality, immersive gameplay, and AI-based experiences – built on a platform designed for players, not tied to a single store or device.”
“We have established a multiannual strategic agreement with AMD to co-design silicon for a portfolio of devices, including our next-generation Xbox consoles,” stated Bond.
At Xbox, our vision is to enable you to play the games you want, with whoever you want, wherever you want. To achieve this, we are investing in our cutting-edge hardware lineup, which includes console, portable, PC, cloud, and accessory options. I am excited to announce that we have established a multi-year strategic partnership with AMD to co-design silicon for a range of devices, including our next-generation Xbox consoles, both for your living room and on-the-go experiences.
Together with AMD, we are advancing the cutting edge of silicon for gaming to deliver the next generation of graphic innovation, unlocking a deeper level of visual quality, immersive gameplay, and enhanced player experiences powered by AI, while maintaining compatibility with your existing Xbox game library.
Our objective is to create a gaming platform that is accessible on any device at all times, enabling you to enjoy your preferred games wherever you are. This initiative involves close collaboration with the Windows team to establish Windows as the premier platform for gaming, offering an Xbox experience that transcends traditional store and device limitations. The next generation of Xbox is now in development, marking the start of a new era. We are eager to unveil our upcoming innovations soon.
Microsoft plans to release the next-generation Xbox in 2028, according to documents released during Microsoft’s legal proceedings with the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which resulted in the approval for the acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
