Onimusha Way of the Sword: New Gameplay Footage of Musashi vs. Sasaki Ganryu

At the Summer Game Fest 2025, Capcom unveiled a new trailer for Onimusha Way of the Sword, featuring a duel between Miyamoto Musashi, the game’s protagonist, and Sasaki Ganryu, his legendary rival. The swordsmen engage in combat with their blades shining brightly, blending historical elements with fantastical ones. Notably, both Musashi and Ganryu wield Oni gloves, supernatural tools integral to the Onimusha series, suggesting an epic confrontation. Additionally, the game includes non-human adversaries such as Genma, demonic beings from the franchise’s universe. Among these threats are Kubi Akari, a spectral entity that steals souls, and Daidara, a colossal monster armed with a giant mace, fueled by unquenchable hunger. The battle sequence against Daidara in an undisclosed arena provides intense visceral tension and highlights the game’s fusion of folklore and action elements. The trailer also introduces a new type of environment, featuring floating ruins amid misty skies and rock formations suspended mid-air, indicating that Way of the Sword will explore surreal landscapes. Musashi appears to have the ability to manipulate space, hinting at potential for parallel exploration within the game.

From a gameplay perspective, Capcom aims to remain faithful to the core principles of Onimusha while updating the overall experience. The game will incorporate the Issen system, which involves perfectly parrying an enemy attack just before it strikes to trigger a lethal counterattack, enhanced here with vivid visual effects. The trailer also features new weapons such as a set of twin hammers that can release shockwaves. Near the end of the video, a mysterious woman briefly appears emerging from the light cast by Musashi’s Oni gauntlet. Few details are provided, but it seems she will play a significant role in the story, possibly as a spiritual guide or hidden antagonist.

“Onimusha Way of the Sword” is anticipated for release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series consoles. The game will feature full voice acting in multiple languages, including French.
