Mafia: The Old Country is one of the highly anticipated games set for release in 2025. Through a “Dev Diary” video, the game provides updates explaining the selection of Italy, particularly Sicily, as the setting. Unlike previous installments that took place in major American cities, this fourth entry in the Mafia series will unfold against the backdrop of rural and historical landscapes in Sicily at the turn of the 20th century. In a video lasting over five minutes, we learn that the creators aimed to explore the origins of criminal traditions by setting the story during an era characterized by poverty, pride, and honor. The objective is to deliver the most authentic experience possible; Hangar13 studio conducted extensive research using historical photographs and site visits to accurately recreate the atmosphere, architecture, and culture of Sicily at that time.
The artistic team traveled across the island to explore villages, museums, and local artisans—including traditional knife forgers—to enhance the game with realistic and unique details. These efforts are designed to provide a complete immersion into this significant period of Sicilian history. The documentation includes precise elements such as the artisanal production of weapons, family honor codes, and the reconstruction of Sicilian towns and villages from that era. Players will assume the role of a member of the emerging Mafia, navigating a world characterized by poverty, honor, and ancient traditions. “Mafia: The Old Country” is scheduled for release on August 8th for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders are now available.
