After years of anticipation and several delays, Ubisoft has finally announced a release window for the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Initially announced in 2020 with a planned January 2021 release date, the project underwent multiple postponements and studio transitions. Development initially started at Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai (the two Indian studios of the French company) but was later moved to Ubisoft Montreal in 2022, the original developer of the 2003 game. The first images released generated significant criticism: outdated visuals, stiff animations such as mummy movements, an off-trend artistic direction, and overall negative feedback that is not uncommon in the industry.
In its recently published financial report, Ubisoft announces the intention to “grant additional development time to some of its largest productions.” The publisher confirms its plan to release the game during the current fiscal year, meaning before March 31, 2026, and if all goes well, it could be available between January and March 2026. Ubisoft plans to reveal more information about the remake at the upcoming Summer Game Fest. Fans hope this new version will recapture the magic of the original title while delivering the expected improvements.
