Announced at the beginning of 2025, Code Violet offers insight into its gameplay through a nearly 20-minute video. This is the third game from Studio TeamKill Media, following Quantum Error and Son and Bone. Scheduled for release in July 2025 on PlayStation 5, the title promises an atmosphere reminiscent of Dino Crisis, featuring encounters with prehistoric creatures. In Code Violet, players take on the role of Violet Sinclair, a woman transported from her time to Trappist 1-E, a colonized planet inhabited by humanity’s survivors after Earth became uninhabitable. The Aion colony, grappling with a sterility crisis, uses time travel technology to bring women from the past to ensure human survival. However, Violet soon uncovers that Aion’s motives are far from noble, thrusting her into a fight for survival in a complex environment infested with dinosaurs and shrouded in unspeakable secrets.
The gameplay video showcases survival mechanics where inventory management is crucial. Players must balance weapons, healing items, and tools to solve environmental puzzles. Encounters with prehistoric creatures necessitate a tactical approach that combines stealth and action in varied environments, from lush jungles to futuristic installations. Although Code Violet utilizes Unreal Engine for its ambitious environment building, the technical execution is mixed. The visual and audio atmosphere effectively creates tension, but the protagonist’s design and animation appear stiff and sometimes mechanical, suggesting an outdated execution. Some lighting effects struggle to conceal a diminishing artistic direction, while Violet’s movements lack fluidity during shooting or interaction sequences. This results in an overall impression of a game from a previous generation, out of step with current survival horror standards on next-gen consoles.
Code Violet is presented as a game blending science fiction, horror, and survival elements that could appeal to fans of titles like Dino Crisis or Dead Space. It remains to be seen if the game will manage to realize its ambitions upon release this summer…
