We had some initial suspicions, which have now been confirmed through today’s Nintendo Direct on April 2, 2025: Mario Kart World will serve as the flagship title for the Nintendo Switch 2, set to launch on June 5th. Our anticipation for this ninth installment has been ongoing since 2014, and although the wait was lengthy, it appears to have been worthwhile. Nintendo is introducing significant changes to the core formula, expanding the game into an extensive open world format. Indeed, Mario Kart will now feature an open world environment where players can traverse across various surfaces including land, sea, and air. Among the notable updates are wider roads, more branching paths, and an increased variety of items. This approach is reminiscent of Forza Horizon but with a distinct Nintendo flair, particularly due to the inclusion of support for up to 24 players in online races. The excitement surrounding these changes is already palpable.
