Nintendo, known for its innovation, has recently introduced virtual game cartridges. This new feature sets the stage for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and its backward compatibility with the original model released in 2017. The concept allows users to manage digital games downloaded from the Nintendo eShop and share them with owners of either a Switch 1 or Switch 2.
In essence, with the software integrated into this new cartridge, users can freely choose and install digital games onto it and play them on another console. However, both machines need to be locally connected for this feature to work, and a crucial detail is that game lending only functions for two weeks after which the game is automatically returned. This feature will be available starting late April through a console update on Nintendo Switch.
