For seven months, Microids has remained silent about Space Adventure Cobra: The Awakening, which is understandable given the internal challenges the publisher faced beginning in January 2025. Longtime CEO Stéphane Longeard and his deputy Marc Laumet have stepped down, to be replaced by former Activision-Blizzard France CEO Michael Sportouch. Despite these internal changes, communication has resumed regarding this year’s titles, including the highly anticipated adaptation of Cobra’s adventures for Club Dorothée fans. No new trailer has been released since the initial teaser, but there are unreleased images along with a set release date. The game is scheduled to launch on August 26 across all existing platforms, marking a departure from Microids’ usual practice of releasing multiple titles between October and December as the fiscal year comes to a close, which differs from other publishers in the sector.
These new images certainly do not reassure regarding the graphical quality, which appears too minimalist to be impressive and once again indicates that the budget allocated for the game is limited. Consequently, Magic Pockets studio has done its best within the constraints imposed by Microids, resulting in a Metroidvania-style game. The game will cover the first 12 episodes of the animated series, taking us as far as the planet Zados where this remarkable treasure is hidden inside a pyramid. There will be no rug-ball games, but certainly new monsters, possibly approved by permissive Japanese rights holders, such as a pyramid guardian that expels gastric bile, while our character Cobra can perform extraordinary leaps. Of course, we hope the game will captivate us beyond its presentation, perhaps through its gameplay and adherence to the universe’s lore. However, the precedent set by Goldorak cautions us to remain cautious… The answer will be revealed on August 26th.
