In the era of significant ecological considerations, Sony Interactive Entertainment is reportedly developing a DualSense controller that utilizes solar energy. This information comes from a recent PlayStation patent that details how the controller can be charged by being exposed to light. As noted by Tech4Gamers, this Sony Interactive Entertainment patent, titled “Operation Device,” specifies that the PlayStation controller includes “several photovoltaic elements” on its casing and a storage area designed to accumulate energy generated by these elements, thus facilitating solar charging of the device. The sketch clearly illustrates these photovoltaic elements positioned on the upper half of the casing, around the analog sticks and various buttons.
Certainly, like many patents, this solar-powered PS5 controller may never become a reality. However, Sony Interactive Entertainment has expressed an intention to move away from rechargeable batteries in pursuit of greater eco-friendliness. It remains unclear whether the Japanese manufacturer will actually implement these ideas or if it is yet another unfruitful attempt. We recall that last year, there was a concept controller utilizing conductive ink.
