La Quimera, which means ‘The Chimera’ in Spanish, is the name of Reburn’s game. Reburn is an Ukrainian studio that may not be widely known; it was previously operating under the radar. However, it is now recognized as the new identity for 4A Games’ Ukraine branch, although it operates independently from a similar studio located in Malta. This revelation, alongside details about La Quimera, was disclosed by PC Games. The game is described as a dystopian sci-fi first-person shooter set in a fictional Latin American city towards the end of the 21st century.Indeed, since their split in 2014, 4A Games Ukraine and 4A Games Malta have been functioning as entirely separate entities. Despite sharing the same name, engine, and having co-developed the latest Metro game together, Reburn confirms that both Ukrainian and Maltese studios are independently owned. 4A Games Malta was formed following the split from 4A Games and is now part of Embracer Group. Both studios collaborated on Metro Exodus but are currently working on individual projects.Since 2020, 4A Games Malta, now under Embracer Group, continues to use the name and branding associated with 4A Games while both entities continue to utilize the 4A Games engine developed for the Metro series. This news may come as a surprise to many, but according to 4A Games, it has been publicly known since their 2014 announcement that these two studios would remain separate entities following the departure of a development team from Ukraine to Malta, which was framed more as an expansion rather than a division.
Regarding La Quimera, limited information is currently available. The game is anticipated to feature impressive visual rendering and innovative weaponry. Its universe and narrative have been crafted by Nicolas Winding Refn, known for directing “Drive” and “Only God Forgives,” who is also a close associate of Hideo Kojima. This may account for the meticulously designed aesthetic that blends a humid Latin American jungle setting with advanced technological elements. La Quimera can be played solo or in cooperative mode with up to three other players, though its release date has yet to be announced.
