Despite a complex production process that included mid-way script changes, character cuts during editing, significant reductions in screen time for others, and numerous reshoots, along with mixed reviews, Captain America: Brave New World has achieved a very strong box office start. The film generated $180.1 million over the weekend worldwide, allowing Marvel Studios to regain some momentum after the underperformance of films like The Marvels, which opened to $46.1 million at the end of 2023. Notably, Anthony Mackie’s solo venture performs comparably to Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which debuted with $95 million in its opening weekend in 2014. It remains to be seen if this launch will enable the film to maintain its performance over the coming weeks; however, given that although critics were not overwhelmingly positive, audiences have shown significant enthusiasm. On the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, Captain America: Brave New World has a critic score of 51%, while audience ratings stand at 80%.
