The State of Play event on February 12, 2025, included news about Directive 8020, the upcoming narrative branching game from Supermassive Studios, which is the first episode of Season 2 of The Dark Pictures. We were already aware that the setting would be different, with horror unfolding in space, and the new trailer has primarily set a release date. The game will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S starting October 2nd, when we will experience this story that takes us to the farthest reaches of the galaxy. All events will unfold on planet Tau Ceti, located twelve light-years from Earth, primarily aboard the colonial vessel Cassiopeia where an extraterrestrial organism capable of mimicking its prey aims to eliminate the entire crew.
The player will be able to control five characters in the game, all members of the crew; however, Lashana Lynch’s character is notably highlighted (having appeared in “The Marvels,” “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” “No Time to Die,” and a yet-to-be-released Bob Marley biopic). As with previous games from Supermassive Studios, each decision made can lead to dramatic shifts in the storyline. Directive 8020 will introduce new gameplay elements, including a flashlight for navigation, a scanner to detect electronic devices and remotely activate systems to distract enemies or bypass obstacles, as well as a communication device for discreet contact with other crew members. Additionally, players will have access to a cape that can be used to force open doors or temporarily incapacitate enemies. The narrative structure will continue to feature branching storylines, challenging dilemmas, and numerous quick time events.
