Announced at the end of 2021 during the Game Awards ceremony, the Wonder Woman game is reportedly facing challenges, according to leaks from Jason Schreier of Bloomberg. His investigation into publisher Warner Bros Games has uncovered details on several projects, including the upcoming narrative-driven standalone Batman game that was handed over to Rocksteady after issues with Suicide Squad. However, while examining files, Schreier also discovered substantial information about the Wonder Woman game, which appears to have been largely forgotten. According to multiple sources who worked on the project and chose to remain anonymous, speaking to Bloomberg, the development of the game was entirely restarted in 2024 along with a change in game director.
The project is visibly struggling to find its direction, with over 100 million dollars already spent. The renowned Nemesis system, which Warner Bros Games patented to prevent other studios from using this innovative concept, was included in the game, featuring a Wonder Woman capable of befriending enemies. However, this idea has since been abandoned in favor of a more conventional action-adventure format. According to sources close to the matter, the fate of the game remains uncertain, particularly due to difficulties stemming from changes in direction within Monolith Studio and issues with the game’s technology. It has now been seven years since the studio released a new game, and their future resembles that of Rocksteady, which ultimately failed with their Suicide Squad game, imposed by Warner Bros Games.
