Astro Bot ‘Nearly Bested Nintendo at Its Own Game’, Former Nintendo CEO Praises the Game

Recently crowned Game of the Year for 2024 at the Game Awards ceremony in December, Astro Bot continues to receive multiple awards. Just yesterday, Team Asobi’s game won four prizes at the New York Game Awards, organized by former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé. Among these four wins, Astro Bot secured three: Best Music in a Game, Best Game for Kids, and Best Game of the Year. With Reggie Fils-Aimé hosting the event, and given numerous comparisons between Astro Bot and certain Super Mario titles from Nintendo, the former CEO of Nintendo of America offered significant praise.

“I must admit, Astro Bot has nearly matched the quality that Nintendo is known for.” These words were met with laughter in the room, yet we recall Nicolas Doucet’s (the game director of Astro Bot) speech at the Game Awards, where he explained that games like Mario have greatly inspired Astro Bot, especially noting that Nintendo has consistently set a high standard for innovation and quality.
