Publisher Microids, which has long advocated for “made in France,” is also looking ahead to new opportunities. At times a distributor, the company based in Rosa Parks recently announced a partnership with NIS America, familiar to fans of J-RPGs. An agreement has been reached for Microids to handle physical distribution in France for several upcoming key titles from NIS America: “Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero,” set for release on January 30, 2025; “The Legend of Heroes Trails Through Daybreak,” expected on February 14, 2025; and “RPG Maker WITH,” scheduled for February 21, 2025. These games will be available on PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch but not on Xbox, as the console is not considered profitable enough in France to drive box sales—a fact acknowledged within the industry.
Microids is pleased to announce its collaboration with NIS America, a leading publisher of Japanese video games. This partnership supports Microids’ goal of expanding its catalog and offering titles that will attract gaming enthusiasts in France. It represents an important milestone in Microids’ strategy to increase its engagement with the Japanese game market and meet players’ growing interest in such productions, as stated by Alexandre Breas, Managing Director at Microids Distribution France.
At NISA, we were seeking a distribution partner, regardless of the company’s size, with whom we could grow over the next decade. We now firmly believe that Microids is the ideal partner for distribution and commercial development because we trust them for their passion and enthusiasm, which are crucial for treating our titles as their own children rather than mere merchandise. Their approach will appeal to local clients and, ultimately, end users. Additionally, we consider it essential to strategically expand the fanbase for Japanese story-focused games in France. Collaborating with Microids seems to be NISA’s solution to achieve this goal, as we believe Microids shares the same philosophy and strategy as NISA.
In this manner, Microids continues to expand its distribution catalog in France through its subsidiary, Microids Distribution France, with established partners including Kalypso, Astragon, Skybound, Curveball, and Meridiem.
