Patience will be required for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, as Ubisoft has once again delayed the release of the game. The previously announced February 14, 2025, release date is no longer valid, and the game is now expected to launch on March 20 instead. In a detailed post on their social media channels, Ubisoft and the game’s director, Marc-Alexis Côté, explain the need to further refine the title.
Although we have already made significant progress, we believe that a few additional weeks are necessary to implement these feedbacks and ensure an even more ambitious and captivating experience from the very first day. Consequently, the new release date is set for March 20, 2025. We reaffirm our commitment to offering an immersive, high-quality experience, strengthened by continuous dialogue between our fans and development teams. We know you are eager to learn more about Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and we are thrilled to announce that new information will reach you very soon.
For some, this calendar delay will also allow Ubisoft to avoid a direct confrontation with major titles in February, particularly Monster Hunter Rise, which is expected to capture significant attention. In doing so, Ubisoft gives itself an additional 5 weeks to let Capcom’s release pass by, during which time substantial sales are anticipated for the latter. Following this decision, Yves Guillemot published a strategic note explaining internal reorganization and supporting the choice to provide all necessary resources to attract as many players as possible.
We have made significant progress in the strategic and operational review that was initiated several months ago, which positions us to confidently envision a stronger future for Ubisoft. We have taken substantial steps to reorganize the Group to provide players with the best possible experience, improve operational efficiency, and maximize value creation. Additionally, we fully support our teams’ efforts in developing the most ambitious Assassin’s Creed installment yet and have decided to grant an additional month of development for Shadows of Valence to better integrate player feedback collected over the past three months. This will enable us to deliver the game’s full potential and conclude the year on a strong note.
Ubisoft continues to release gameplay snippets to highlight recent developments following the game’s September announcement delay. Previously showcased were combat phases from Yasuke and Naoe’s highly flexible ninja movements. It remains to be seen if this will be sufficient to attract a wider audience.
