The next game from Fumito Ueda, the creator of ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian, was presented at the 2024 Game Awards ceremony discreetly. A trailer lasting more than two minutes provides a brief glimpse into an apocalyptic world awaiting discovery. It showcases a young boy with robotic limbs climbing onto his giant robot to evade what appears to be the aftermath of a nuclear explosion. Questions such as why the world is deteriorating and who this boy in a poncho, armed with an assault rifle, might be remain unanswered for now. Another mystery is why he chooses to flee atop his machine’s head rather than utilizing its full robotic capabilities. Despite these uncertainties, it is clear that progress on the project continues. Thanks to funding from Epic Games, the game can now move forward. However, there is no official title, release platform (PC seems likely), or release date for the game yet. What is known is that genDESIGN studio’s new game development, which began in 2017, proceeds under Fumito Ueda’s methodical approach.
