The 2024 Game Awards evening provided Gearbox Software and 2K Games with an opportunity to finally unveil Borderlands 4. The cartoon graphic style has been retained but appears less pronounced. The game seems to have expanded in scale, both in environments and character offerings, providing more charisma and a tougher attitude across all factions. In fact, players will encounter four new Vault Hunters on quests for glory and riches, facing a new antagonist (the Time Keeper) on an unfamiliar hostile planet while maintaining continuity. Borderlands 4 continues to emphasize the diversity of its weapons, gadgets, and character skills that can be developed through a skill tree allowing ability progression throughout the game.
Gearbox Software has announced that the game can be played solo or in cooperative mode, featuring narrative-driven content, free exploration, loot collection, boss battles, and eccentric, vibrant characters. Some familiar faces will also make appearances in the game. Borderlands 4 is scheduled for release in 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with more details about gameplay focuses to be shared early next year.
