Virtua Fighter is returning, though not in the form fans may have anticipated. Instead of a new entry, SEGA is releasing a remaster of Virtua Fighter 5, titled R.E.V.O., exclusively for PC. The company appears to be taking a cautious approach, likely wary of repeating past sales disappointments with another Virtua Fighter installment. Given that the franchise has been largely dormant since its last release in 2007, it presents a significant challenge to rejuvenate such a series after so many years. However, undertaking a remaster in 4K is a practical initial step. The updates for this remaster include an enhanced display and rollback netcode to ensure smooth online gameplay. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios is handling the porting process. Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is scheduled for release this winter, although no specific date has been announced; however, there is at least an announcement video available.
