Four years have already passed since the Super Nintendo World amusement park opened in Osaka, Japan, attracting many visitors. However, several comments have noted the small size of the park. In a few weeks, this will change as the park is set to double in size with the opening of a new area on December 11, 2024. Named Donkey Kong Country and themed around a jungle setting, this expansion will focus on the habitat of Nintendo’s iconic gorilla character and his friends. Shigeru Miyamoto provided a tour, showcasing Donkey Kong’s cabin, the Golden Temple, the Mine-Cart Madness roller coaster, and various activities accessible with the connected wristband, such as a three-way conga line duel. The expansion will also include themed shops and refreshment areas designed around monkeys and tropical forests.
The opening of the Donkey Kong Country extension in Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan is anticipated for December 11, 2024, with a planned expansion in a Florida park scheduled for 2025. According to consulting firm Aecom, the Osaka Super Nintendo World attracted 16 million visitors in 2023 alone, making it the third most-visited theme park globally.
