The Metroid Prime 4 myth has finally come to an end with the release of the first trailer for a game announced in 2017, seven years ago, at the outset of the Nintendo Switch console’s launch. One can understand the relief felt by both Nintendo and players who were genuinely uncertain if the game would ever be released on this generation of consoles. Not only will Metroid Prime 4 indeed be available on Switch, but it is also scheduled for release in 2025. The initial images indicate a game quite similar to previous Metroid Prime series installments, featuring somewhat unimpressive graphics, although there are some beautiful effects scattered throughout. Meanwhile, the gameplay is expected to return to the foundational elements established by Retro Studios long ago, including an objective viewpoint, rolling into a ball to navigate tight spaces, and numerous puzzles and enigmas that should enhance the adventure.
For those wondering why this episode took so long, it is noted that development began from scratch after Nintendo was not satisfied with the result produced by its internal teams, particularly producer Kensuke Tanabe, who decided to bring in Retro Studios in Texas to address the issues. We will see if the change of team proves beneficial next year.
