We’ve been buzzing about this for weeks, and now it’s official: Kraven The Hunter will be the first R-rated Marvel/Sony Pictures film! In the just-released teaser trailer, Sony is making it clear that this movie isn’t for kiddos. Think knife fights, gun battles, slashed throats, and even a nose bitten off with bare teeth—Kraven spares no blood in his quest for power. While internet fans are thrilled about the intense action scenes, there’s less excitement around the altered origin story. In the comics, Sergei Kravinov gets his powers from an African sorcerer through the blood of a lion, granting him superhuman strength. But in the movie, Sergei’s journey is quite different—he gains his strength from his bond with animals rather than killing them outright like he does in the original tales.
We’re still in the dark about why Sony Pictures decided to tweak Kraven’s origin story for the film, but it seems folks online aren’t happy about it at all. That said, Aaron Taylor-Johnson definitely brings a younger and more ferocious version of the character to life on screen. As for his dad, Russell Crowe nails the role with a noticeable Russian accent, though we’re crossing our fingers that it doesn’t end up feeling too overdone. Lastly, Alessandro Nivola, known from films like ‘Volte-Face’ and ‘Jurassic Park 3’, steps in as Rhino, sporting an impressive costume/armor that allows him to transform into a rhino—a pretty unconventional twist but not entirely out of the blue given all the different versions we’ve seen over the years.
Movie fans are eagerly looking forward to the big screen debut of “Kraven the Hunter” this coming October!
